PHOTOGRAPHIC MATERIALS

Tracing the shift from photography as image-making to photography as material encounter, this work engages with photosensitive paper and film beyond their conventional uses. There is a deliberate courting of error—misuse as a method of discovery. Scratches, light leaks, chemical inconsistencies, and the traces left by touch become more than surface flaws; they operate as indices of unseen gestures, quiet markers of process, time, and interaction. These disruptions, unplanned yet not entirely accidental, speak from beneath language, surfacing impressions or memories that resist direct articulation.

Here, photographic material becomes a site of sensitivity—not just to light, but to presence, handling, and unpredictability. The image ceases to function purely as a reflection of the visible world, instead becoming a receptive skin where something internal, felt, or ambiguous might emerge. What comes through is not always what was sought, but what insists on appearing—buried content that evades control yet invites interpretation. The work moves away from representation toward resonance, allowing material to hold meaning in forms that elude definition, yet remain affectively legible.
